After hearing second hand from Mike about the work in Thailand, it was wonderful to hear about it in Sue’s own voice! I share her excitement about the girls going to university and having more viable options, including reclaiming dreams. How powerful! How amazing that one is a textile designer – artist, another an engineer and still another an aspiring lawyer. A great showcase of true potential for women who can transition out of the trade and into university with loving shepherds and friends along the way.

“They don’t have a word for grief….” That blows my mind. How can you acknowledge a feeling if it isn’t even accounted for in the Dictionary. I love that our Canadian girls, like Sue, are partnering with the local women and helping to give expression to the grief experienced by these women. It’s better to grieve that to be numb. With women standing alongside them on this journey, they will start to see that they are supported and loved…. that there are other options available even if it means stepping out into the unknown.

It interesting to hear that gambling debts are the root of many more women having to dance at clubs. Married women…no less.

I was really touched by the “blankness” in their eyes described by Sue. “They get off stage and sit by themselves and hang their heads..this is not a career option …not a choice they made…they are trying to support their children”

Words to meditate on. It’s not enough to rally and raise a voice against the injustice. We need to provide alternative options so that they can: support their children. I think that is key. We need to collectively find more ways for women to rejoin community as valued contributing members of society. “Textile designer, chemical engineering, lawyer…” That’s what I’m talking about!
