Catherine Shrock -We are Women7By Catherine Hanna Schrock

We are women
We are strong

We belong
To the global sisterhood
Fortified for the good
Of the other
Daughter,
Mother
Sister, brother
Every nation
Reverberate
The proclamation
That each one is
The beloved
Reconciled through grace
United in love

Come, sisters,
With the wisdom
Of our ancestors
For the sake of our Daughters
We, who are here
Rise up
Take hands
And build peace

Come, sisters
Take strength from your pain
The courage we gain
When we discover
Beyond ethnicity
Distance
Our perceived difference
That her suffering is my suffering
Is our liberation
Bound together
Rise up
Take hands
And build peace

Come, sisters
Let’s listen
Past the limits
Of our assumptions
Clear out the commotion
Listen
With heart wide open
Humbly
To her story
The story
Behind the story
Rise up
Take hands
And build peace

Come, sister
Seek to understand
Listen again
Again
And when judgments
Settle in
Touch the hem
Of Jesus’ cloak
We refuse to be enemies
Rise up
Take hands
And build peace

Breathe
Wade through the fears
Don’t apologize
For your tears
They are evidence of feminine genius
Arms open
Heart swollen
Ever expansive
Expanding
Together
We can cover the world
With a balm of compassion

We are women
We are strong

Happy International Women’s Day, Lovelys! May we be bold for change as we rise, as we refuse to be enemies, as we amplify women’s voices and amplify the voices that have been silenced.

Here’s an audio recording of this beautiful piece, performed by Catherine. Enjoy!
