Original Blessing: An Interview with Danielle Shroyer

sheloves mag red couch interviews danielle shroyer -original blessing

There are some books that seem to pinpoint something I’ve been trying to say but just couldn’t articulate the words. It’s like the author was able to scratch an unreachable itch through her words. In a lot of ways, Danielle Shroyer’s powerful look at sin and its origins has been that for me. When I first read Original Blessing: Putting Sin in Its Rightful Place, I didn’t realize that this is what I had been feeling: That God is not a God of condemnation but a God of love and blessing. That God loves me because of my humanity, not in spite of it.

One of my goals, when I became editor of the Red Couch Book Club, was to engage with more authors. I love reading books in community and learning from so many different perspectives. Hearing first-hand about an author’s experience and journey in writing adds such depth and new understanding to books. My hope is that we will benefit from many of these interviews throughout the year.

Last week, Liana Norheim, who so graciously led us through the introduction of Original Blessing, Olive Chan, who will be leading us in wrapping up our discussion of the book, and I had the honor of spending time talking with Danielle about her experience writing it. This was a hard discussion to keep under 40 minutes but somehow we managed to stay focused! Danielle’s honesty and wisdom have enhanced Original Blessing and I hope you enjoy our conversation!

You can find Danielle and connect with her at her website: http://danielleshroyer.com.

We would love for you to connect with us and join the conversation over at our Facebook group: /groups/RedCouchBookClub.

Join us back here on January 31 as Olive leads us in our discussion! Thanks for reading along!
