Trigger Warning: Mention of sexual assault, abuse and suicide attempts.

“…that is what faith is. Living in the not knowing and trusting that God has something better for us.”

This month, we’re invited into Christine Hallman’s story. Christine, who is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and anxiety, has endured sexual assault, eating disorders, abuse and more. Yet, her story isn’t defined by those hurdles; it’s defined by grace and redemption. That is why she says she shares her story — “to be a part of ending the stigma against mental health.”

About Christine:

Christine is a Starbucks drinking, weed pulling, rain loving, Jesus follower who currently lives in Ontario. Her heart comes out in her work caring for the marginalized and being a youth leader at a local church. As a last resort, after years of struggling Christine jumped on a plane to BC and found healing at a program called Mercy Canada. Life has its challenges and she faces trials daily but shares her story in hopes to encourage conversations and stop the stigma that comes with mental illness.

ABOUT SISTERS IN MENTAL ILLNESS:

One in four people struggle with a mental health disorder in our world. Sisters in Mental Illness is a vlog series where Shaley Hoogendoorn has real conversations with brave SheLovelys who are willing to share their experience of living with a mental illness. We will share ALL the stories—stories of sadness, madness, shame and struggle. The more we talk about hard things like mental health, the better we can understand and walk with and alongside our Sisters in Mental Illness. We can remind each other that our stories are not over yet. Together we can smash the stigma and stereotypes of mental illness, ONE story at a time.
