Nichole Forbes and Rachelle Fehr both live on Treaty 1 Territory in Manitoba, Canada. Tune in to their conversation on the challenges of being an Indigenous woman of faith.
Both grew up in the church. Both have needed to shed harmful ideas the Church communicated, so they may embrace their full, God-given and glorious Indigenous identity. Both have learned that God is so much bigger than a western (and a white) imagination.
They also remind us that the discovery of #215 unmarked graves in Kamloops, B.C. was not a surprise to Indigenous people.
This is not just in our past, Rachelle reminds us. This is her family’s story. “Some of us are living and breathing this right now.”
“What I would love to see,” says Nichole, “is the church adopting a posture of humility.”
Come, let’s sit with more Truth together.
Happy National Indigenous Day.
